Reiji, a private detective, is currently involved in a particularly mysterious case. Lately, the severed arms and legs of young girls have been found around town, but the bodies have never been located, leaving the police at a loss. All victims so far seem to come from the Ooba girls' school, which Reiji's sister also goes to. On top of all this, a strange painting titled "The Girl in the Shell" by Shinzo Mamiya has been linked to the mysterious cases...
